Humans became the most effective beings in the ecosystem, they act towards construction, consumption, demolition and reconstruction.This human centred behaviour, resulted in calling the current geological age The Anthropocene, where human activity is most dominant in the environment. But creatures that bring together our ecosystem, bound a unified energy. Everything is connected to something, and all the species on the planet are part of the same communion. We are unified and borders and boundaries don’t matter, we have the borders as long as we build them. Borders are just another abstraction of Anthropocene interventions.
Since 2011 the civil war in Syria has resulted in 465,000 deaths and displacement among almost half of the pre-war population.Northern Bald Ibis birds, an endangered species, are not allowed to migrate from Turkey to Ethiopia due to the conflict since 2014, because their routes pass by Syria. They have been kept and protected at Bald Ibis Breeding Centre, in a cage at Birecik/ Sanliurfa, Turkey.
Patterns of Unintentional Coordination is a one channel video, filmed in Sanliurfa, Turkey, on 21 February 2017, the release day of the birds for nesting purposes. Overlapping patterns, raises questions on abstraction of migration with cross discipline research by creating a spatial storytelling experience, in order to open up conversations about interconnectivity.

FAT is an installation that visualizes the human in its most abstracted form (fat) within the virtual factory of hidden human labor of Amazon’s Mechanical Turk. Using a data set from NYU about the MTurk workers, we were able to calculate the average amount of time spent to complete one task. This time was then converted into calories using a daily calorie intake of 2000 per day, which was then converted to grams of fat.The project aims to materialize intake of 2000 per day, which was then converted to grams of fat. Amazon’s Mechanical Turk is a virtual, distributed factory of hidden human labor for computer tasks that computers still fail to complete. The MTurk is the one example that shows to what extent the immateriality and invisibility of the Internet transforms social systems and the individual nucleus. The human is reduced to the level of the machine in exchange of a few cents per task. Humans accomplish a series of HITs (Human Intelligence Tasks) that computer algorithms of different sort of firms and corporations fail to achieve accurately –such as recognizing pictures or describing situations, selecting or generating a series of tags, etc– in the environment of a computer interface, without ever interacting with another human and instead diminishing their ambition to “becoming a part of an algorithm”.
The mechanical turk is historically a “self-playing” chessboard that uses a magnet mechanism in a box that a hidden human controls. In Amazon’s MTurk, the chessboard box is actually the internet, hiding the human labor.
Title of the project abstracts the human component, reducing it to energy and then one of its simplest forms: its fat equivalent. The heated fat translates the process of a virtual economy that then takes a physical form and solidifies in real life. To metaphorize the invisible virtual structure of the Internet, the fat is heated up with a computer CPU which then drips through an ethernet cable onto a chessboard, recalling the original mechanical turk. This sculptural light installation studies how to make sense of the space through our senses in order to trigger people's perception by creating apophenia.
All senses including vision can be regarded as extensions of the sense of touch ; the senses are interface between us and the outer world.
The plaster parts are made by casting body parts and sticked on a canvas.

Sky Map NYC
Sky Map NYC is a collaboration project with Luobin Wang and Stine Møller Andersen.
Sky Map is an interactive data visualization map of how sky looks like in Manhattan.
With this interactive map, we question an alternative way of exploring the space we live within. The idea is to see our city in different perspectives, even in such fast life we have in metropolitan cities like New York, we can pay attention to how we experience our environment. We want our users to think of, how much of the blue sky they see, or get inspired by shining star? And be able to ask themselves how does it feel like walking under the shadows of big buildings.
Reef Narratives is a data structures project created in collaboration with Amanda Lewis. Articles that including the word 'reefs' were scraped from NYT and The Guardian through using their API documentation and analysed with dandelion in order to make sense of the word entities. This lets us to understand how an environmental issue has been perceived in different sections of a media such as politics, science and opinion.
I met you on the way
A visual sound installation, revolves around the idea of communication through a non physical piece by personifying them with sound waves.
Voice recordings from different people talking in different languages were used to make sound visualizations on Processing. These patterns were than projected on a wall and it welcomes the viewer in an empty space where you only encounter the circular movements and a person speaking. This piece questions empathy, de-personification and communication.
Movement is a manipulated dance video, visualising the connection between body and space, evoking thoughts about perception, expressed through 360 video production.
Air can be considered as negative space containing our embodied experience, presence. When the performer dances, this experience unifies with the space; in a reciprocal loop. So to say space around her/him is a part of the movement.
Our senses are an interface between us and the outer world, they are extensions from our body, they communicate us with the space. To understand how the performer interacts with the space, the programming language visualises her body movements by tracking her constant contour and their centre points, and draws curved lines over the data points; which than becomes a visual representation of these interactions.
The piece is produced in collaboration with the performer Verda Zincirkiran.
We must therefore avoid saying that our body is in space, or in time. It inhabits space and time. If my hand traces a complicated path through the air, I do not need, in order to know its final position, to add together all movements made in the same direction and subtract those made in the opposite direction. ‘Every identifiable change reaches con- sciousness already loaded with its relations to what has preceded it, as on a taximeter the distance is given already converted into shillings and pence.
Moment Tree for Noel&Frida
Moment Tree is designed specifically for our elderly couple from Kortrijk, Belgium. It is a memory keeping modular product designed to put little souvenirs and notes for each other. It is a company for them when are bored at home which was a problem or their daily routine that we figured out during our interviews. All 7 colours represent 7 days of the week, to help their memory. It's inspired by the idea of how trees age in time but also bound a stronger relationship with the soil as well as our lovely couple Noel and Frida.
This project was made in the intensive program at HOWEST University West Flanders in oder to create relevant and sustainable products/services that improve health and wellbeing through end-user development. It was a team project with Jyhi Shen, Jonathan Lievrouw and Jolien Van Den Heede.
Sims Live! - Urban Hacking
'Sims Live!', inspired from the game 'Sims Tower' reveals the private lives of people by projecting 3 stories of 3 apartments on a building. As for the interaction, pressing the button(on the plinth) a certain amount of times enables each floors of the building to reveal a pre-recorded/programmed video as if you were playing the game Sims Tower.

It was quite long, in the middle, starting from the edge under her breasts, going all the way down to her belly button, looked like an embossed rope. I tried not to make any weird facial expression, and took a nice shot. Than she turned her side a little bit.

That little one is actually the scar of the catheter. There is no one by the window over there right? If my neighbours were to see me now, they will probably ask what this weird girl is doing in front of the window, almost naked?
That was one of my favourite shots.
In search of abstract imagery, this documentation project studies the body as a landscape form. The goal was to make close ups of human body parts such as curves and cavities. We worked with many different volunteer models and the final outcome was a binded book and A0 size of prints.
This was a collaboration project with Wiktoria Syska.

Paper Planesis a time based sculptural art work created in order to pay attention to the death toll of children in Syria. Inspired by the previous poster work Children of Syria, this installation is made of broken paper plane plaster pieces. Each one breaks and piles up on the circle when a child dies in Syria during the war. This is still a concept based project and ongoing to be developed further.
